Beware: Madras Eye is spreading in Sivakasi

The recent rains might bring some respite to Sivakasians but rains also bring a slew of diseases with it. Since the beginning of the rains in Sivakasi, more people are being affected with Conjunctivitis or what is popularly known as Madras Eye. Cases of Madras Eye, a highly contagious but self-limiting eye ailment, are on the rise in Sivakasi town for the last one week.

Symptoms of Madras Eye
Redness in the white of the eye or inner eyelid
Increased amount of tears
Thick yellow discharge that crusts over the eyelashes, especially after sleep
Green or white discharge from the eye
Itchy eyes
Burning eyes
Blurred vision
Increased sensitivity to light

Dont let it spread
If you are infected
Wear dark glasses and stay away from public places
Avoid sharing towels, handkerchiefs and pillows
Use sterlite cotton and wipes to clean the eye
Wash hands frequently
Consult eye specialist immediately
