Vembakottai taluk to be formed soon

A new taluk, with Vembakottai as headquarters, would be formed soon in Virudhunagar district, said T.S. Sridhar, Commissioner for Revenue Administration, on Friday.

Speaking at a function at Ezhayirampannai to mark the commencement of fourth cycle of distribution of government freebies, Mr. Sridhar said that the new taluk would be formed by annexing areas carved out of Sivakasi and Sattur taluks.

The government was keen on ensuring that there should not be any delay in benefits of welfare schemes reaching the people and hence, it had planned to create 15 more taluks, in addition to the 49 taluks created in the last three years.

Free mixies, grinders and fans had been distributed to 90 lakh family cardholders so far and 45 more cardholders would get them this year.

The Minister for Revenue, R. B. Udhayakumar, said that the AMMA scheme, which was meant to redress people’s grievances at their doorsteps, had dealt with 33 lakh petitions so far.

The Minister for Information and Publicity and Special Programme Implementation, K. T. Rajenthra Bhalaji, said that freebies had been distributed to over 2.53 lakh cardholders in Virudhunagar district in the last three years.

The Collector, V. Rajaraman, welcomed the gathering. Free mixies, grinders and fans were given away to 4, 797 beneficiaries at Ezhayirampannai, Gundayiruppu, Alangulam and Kallamanaickanpatti in Sivakasi taluk on Friday, according to an official press release.
