Panguni Pongal pulls crowd in Mariamman Kovil

Today, Sivakasi celebrates Panguni Pongal Festival in Sivakasi Arulmighu Sri Mariamman Thirukovil. Numerous shops were placed around the temple, a week before the celebration. Majority of the offices and industries declared local holidays for 2 days. Sivakasi Mariamman Kovil has been decked up with festoons, flowers, lights and banners for the Sivakasi Panguni Pongal Festival. Sivakasians prepared and offered pongal for Mariamman from 3rd April 2015, Friday onwards. Sivakasi Hindu Nadar Uravinmurai arranged the festival in a grand and in an systematic manner. The temple and police administration have made special arrangements to conduct the festival in a smooth manner. Paadha Kanikai, muthu poduthal were offered by the devotees to Lord Mariamman. Some devotees carried out Aayiramkan Paanai. Majority of Sivakasians, in their home prepared traditional Kathirikaai and Murungaikaai Puli Kulambu. Today, the temple remains open throughout the night and special prayers will be performed. Tomorrow, Kayirukuthu festival will be held.
