Workshop on "Smart grid and micro grid system" held at Mepco
A two-day workshop on ‘Smart grid and micro grid system-research issues’ was organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, on May 4 and 5. B.V. Manikandan, Professor and S.T. Jaya Christa, Associate Professor, coordinated the workshop which was inaugurated by K. Balaraman, Director General, National Institute for Wind Energy, Chennai. He spoke on “Smart grid for renewable energy integration.” Fifty two participants from colleges across the State attended the workshop. The topics handled at the workshop were: operation and control of wind-driven induction generator DC micro grid system; recent trends in intelligent electrical power grid, fault ride through requirements for grid-connected distributed power resources; modern power grid for sustainable future; battery energy management system for micro grid and demand response programmes in smart grid. N. Kumaresan and P. Raja of NIT-Tiruchi and V. Ravikumar Pandi of Amrita Univeristy, Kollam, shared their experience with the participants.
