Madurai, Sivakasi adjudged best cities in Swasth Bharat Yatra
Tamil Nadu has bagged the first place in the Swasth Bharat Yatra, a pan-India cyclothon, with a key element of Eat Right India, which was launched in last October. Madurai and Sivakasi have been adjudged the best cities under it, said health minister C Vijaya Baskar.
The yatra was launched by the minister, in the presence of P Amudha, commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Administration in Madurai, last year. It was an initiative launched by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
He made the announcement, while speaking to reporters after inspecting the Rs 150 crore super-speciality hospital, which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 27.
A communication received from the FSSAI on Friday stated that they were happy to announce that Tamil Nadu had been selected for the award as the best state (overall) and that Madurai and Sivaksi have been selected as the best cities in Tamil Nadu for the award. The award would be given in New Delhi on January 29.
