Watermelon Season in Sivakasi

A significant number of roadside watermelon vendors come from nearby villages of Sivakasi and stay here until the end of the watermelon season (March to May). In Sivakasi, roadside vendors sell Watermelon for prices ranging from Rs.10 a kg to Rs.12 a kg. A piece of watermelon goes at the same retail rate Rs.5. A roadside vendor near Sivakasi Electricity Board said sivakasiweekly.com that, he procure watermelons from Kayathar and he expects the sales will be doubled as the summer nears. Several local Sivakasi fruit vendors said the retail price is fixed at Rs.15 - Rs.17 a kg and the wholesale price is Rs.13 a kg. Sivakasi roadside vendors have begun cashing in on the watermelons. It is the time for the fruit lovers to taste the fleshy melons to beat the heat of Summer.
