Sivakasi hit by thunder, lightning, rain

Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Sivakasi town on 4th October 2014, Saturday. The heavy downpour that started around 07.20 p.m. and continued till 08:45 p.m., catching people off guard, and many had to take shelter in front of commercial outlets and under trees. There was mild drizzle from 05:55 p.m. To 07:15p.m.. Power supply got disrupted from 07:40 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. in a few areas (PKN Road and Solai Colony), and roads were flooded. The water stagnation on the roads dug for the execution of the drainage scheme in various parts of the town led to traffic snarls and the worst hit were the two-wheeler riders. The unseemly rain also resulted in several cancelled outdoor events and threw life out of gear for many Sivakasians. The northeast monsoon will bring in more thunderstorms to Sivakasi and its neighbourhood, for the next one week, with maximum and minimum temperature of 33 and 27 degree celsius.
