Today, the annual chithirai pongal therottam begins. After special pujas were performed to the presiding deities, Badrakaliamman and Vinayaka, the event began from Theradimukku at 04:00 p.m.. Devotees pulled the decorated temple car which carried the idols of presiding deities Goddess Badrakaliamman and Vinayaka. The procession covered the four car streets of Sivakasi town. Enthusiastic devotees, including large number of school and college students, pulled the car through the four Car Streets of Sivakasi town. The decorated small Vinayaka car reached its destination in around one hour. Black clouds gathered and Sivakasi receives heavy rainfall between 04:25 p.m. and 05:40 p.m.. Usually the big chariot reaches Agni Vinayakar Temple, on the first day, whereas, today due to hail stone rain, the chariot reaches for a fewer distance (near Perummal Temple). It is expected that the chariot will reaches the destination in 2 days.
