Thai Pongal celebrated

Pongal, the harvest festival, was celebrated with fervour in Sivakasi on 15th January 2024, Monday. The colourful Rangoli and Dot kolams on the streets and houses decorated with kannupilla chedi and manjal chedi, karumbu and flowers marked the day as Sivakasians welcomed the auspicious Tamil month of "Thai". Karumbu sold out for Rs.50/- to Rs.60/- per karumbu and one bundle of 15 karumbu priced Rs.600/-. Kanupilla chedi priced Rs.10/- and Manjal Chedi Rs.20/- to Rs.30/-. Sivakasians exchanged greetings with friends and relatives and distributed pongal. Most of the office and factories in Sivakasi remained open on Sunday, due to Pongal holidays on Monday and Tuesday.
